Facebook Announces Your Algorithm Controls for Feed and Reels

The feature lets users describe what they want to see more or less often. Meta says those preferences change recommendations in real time.

A direct say in Facebook recommendations

Meta announced Facebook’s AI-powered Your Algorithm feature on October 13, 2026. It lets users describe, in their own words, the topics and content they want to see more or less often in Feed and Reels.

The change gives users a direct way to guide Facebook’s recommendations—the automated choices that determine what appears in their feeds. Their stated preferences become another input into that system, giving them a way to explain what they want.

How to give more specific feedback

Facebook’s updated three-dot menu on individual posts provides access to Your Algorithm. It also includes Interested and Not interested options, putting topic preferences and feedback on a particular post within the same menu.

Meta says Facebook may ask follow-up questions about what users liked or disliked. Those questions would let users explain their preferences in more detail than a simple expression of interest.

Meta says changes made through Your Algorithm are reflected in recommendations in real time. That is the company’s claim about how quickly the controls respond, rather than an independently verified result.

Facebook follows Instagram’s rollout

Your Algorithm first launched for Instagram Reels in December 2025, then expanded to Instagram Feed and Explore in June 2026. Facebook’s announcement brings the same named feature to another Meta platform.

For Facebook users, the practical change is a way to state topic preferences directly and refine them through post feedback. The central promise is that those instructions will shape recommendations immediately—a response Meta says the feature delivers.
