HomePod mini 2 arrives October 30
Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on October 13, 2026, and opened preorders the same day. Availability is set for October 30, but Siri AI will arrive through a later software update.
Engadget reports a $149 price, compared with the original HomePod mini’s $99 launch price in 2020. That gives buyers a higher starting price to weigh against the audio features and promised Siri update.
Four-speaker surround requires a specific Apple TV
Apple says HomePod mini 2 can work alone, in a stereo pair or across multiple rooms. Its S10 chip handles computational audio—processing sound as it plays to adjust audio output.
For TV listening, Apple says four HomePod mini 2 speakers can provide surround sound with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. The system automatically adjusts sound timing and levels for the speakers’ positions. That Apple TV requirement matters when planning a setup.
Engadget reports that the configuration expands the previous two-HomePod limit to four speakers. It also supports second-generation HomePods, including a mix of two of those speakers and two HomePod mini 2 units.
Engadget also reports that two HomePod minis can serve as Mac or MacBook speakers through AirPlay, Apple’s wireless audio connection. The outlet says this works with any Mac, and the connection stays in place until changed.
Apple’s Sound Glow feature makes the top lighting respond to music and match album-art colors. Apple says it also offers animations for soundscapes. The speaker comes in pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
Siri’s promised features have different device requirements
Siri AI, the planned artificial intelligence update to Apple’s assistant, will not be available at launch. Apple and Engadget place it in a future software update, with no release timeframe specified.
Apple says personal-context features will require pairing the speaker with an iPhone or iPad enabled for Apple Intelligence, its AI system. These features would let Siri use information across apps to complete tasks. Buyers interested in that capability will need a compatible paired device.
Apple says users without that paired device can still get general-knowledge answers, conversational features and improved music discovery once Siri AI is enabled on a supported HomePod mini.
For anyone buying mainly for Siri AI, the key unresolved detail is timing. October 30 is the speaker’s scheduled availability date; it does not mark the arrival of the promised assistant update.
