A shared screen for household controls
Apple opened preorders for its $299 HomeView on October 13, 2026, with a launch scheduled for November 13, according to Ars Technica. It is Apple's first smart display, combining a 7-inch touchscreen and speaker for household controls and personal assistance.
A smart display brings a screen to tasks handled through a voice assistant. Ars reports that HomeView accepts spoken smart-home commands through Siri and can show up to nine live video feeds at once.
The shared device also offers individual views. According to Ars, its built-in camera identifies users and brings up profiles with their preferred apps and widgets, supporting up to six household members.
Personal HomeView features depend on a compatible device
The key requirement for personal features is a linked iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, Apple's artificial intelligence features. Ars reports that connecting such a device to a HomeView profile provides access to Messages, Calendar, Reminders and FaceTime through the hub.
Apple says that pairing also lets Siri act across apps and use personal context, including information from Messages and Calendar. In practical terms, the announced capability connects the assistant's responses and actions to the user's own information.
Without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, Apple says HomeView's Siri still supports general knowledge questions, natural conversations and improved music discovery. Buyers should check device compatibility if access to personal apps is central to their plans.
Camera recognition and wall mounting have extra requirements
Apple says HomeView's intelligent camera recognition requires compatible cameras and a supported iCloud+ subscription. That makes camera compatibility and the subscription additional checks for buyers who want that feature.
Wall mounting also requires a specific HomeView model, available in space gray or silver, Ars reports. A Schneider Home mount is sold separately, with prices starting at $60.
Ahead of the scheduled November 13 launch, the practical buying decision goes beyond the display's $299 price. The features a household wants will determine whether it also needs a compatible personal device, a camera subscription or a separate wall mount.
