A higher price for new voice and audio features
Apple announced an updated Apple TV 4K streaming device with Siri AI on October 13, 2026, according to Engadget and TechCrunch. The $299 device opens for preorders the same day, with availability scheduled for November 13, 2026.
Engadget reports that the price is $100 above the previous version’s starting price, even after an increase earlier in 2026. The announced changes center on using Siri without the remote, finding a misplaced remote by sound and expanding HomePod audio.
Apple TV 4K puts Siri commands within speaking distance
Apple says built-in far-field microphones let users give Siri commands without using the remote. These microphones are designed to pick up voices from a distance. TechCrunch reports that the device has three microphones and does not need a paired HomePod for those commands.
Apple presents Siri AI, its artificial intelligence assistant, as a way to find content and ask questions about shows. Engadget also reports that answers to general questions appear in a corner of the television screen instead of being spoken aloud.
The updated remote adds a speaker that Apple says can play a sound when users ask Siri to locate it. That changes the search from following directions to listening for an alert. TechCrunch reports that the earlier locator, introduced in 2023, provided directions in an app.
HomePod audio expands from two speakers to four
Apple says the refreshed device supports four-speaker surround sound using second-generation HomePod or HomePod mini 2 speakers. Surround sound uses speakers around the listener. Engadget reports that users can also combine two speakers of each model.
The previous HomePod setup supported two speakers as a stereo pair, according to Engadget. The announced four-speaker option expands the audio setup for owners of compatible HomePods, while the built-in microphones make hands-free Siri a separate feature that needs no HomePod.
For buyers weighing the reported $100 premium, the practical additions are voice access, an audible remote locator and expanded speaker support. November 13 is the scheduled availability date; these features are described in announcement reports ahead of that release.
