A Cyberpunk 2077 film takes shape
Paramount is developing a film based on Cyberpunk 2077, according to The Verge and Variety. The Verge describes the planned adaptation as live-action, meaning it will use human performers to bring the game’s science-fiction world to the screen.
Variety reports that Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a producer of the Transformers films, is attached to the project. CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer and franchise rights holder, also serves as a producer.
That gives the company behind the game a role in the film’s production. Its involvement is a concrete link between the source material and the adaptation, though it does not establish which story the film will tell.
Night City supplies the setting, but the film’s story is unresolved
Cyberpunk 2077 launched in December 2020, according to Variety. It is a science-fiction, open-world role-playing game: players take on a character’s role and explore its setting.
The game takes place in Night City and follows V, a hired gun whose biochip contains the digital likeness of Johnny Silverhand. Variety’s description establishes the game’s premise, rather than a confirmed plot for the film.
For fans, the distinction matters: a film based on Cyberpunk 2077 does not yet establish a screen version of V’s story. The Verge also reports that no premiere timing is available, leaving viewers without a date to plan around.
