Jaguar reveals Type 01 electric car with Type 00 styling

The four-door grand tourer brings camera-based rear visibility and mostly touchscreen controls to Jaguar’s production design. A sales date and confirmed price remain unannounced.

From concept to production

Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, an electric four-door grand tourer that carries much of its Type 00 concept’s distinctive styling into production. The reveal establishes the car’s design, though Jaguar had not announced an on-sale date as of Engadget’s October 7, 2026 report.

The Type 00 arrived in 2024 alongside a redesign of Jaguar’s classic cat logo. Keeping much of that polarizing concept’s appearance makes the Type 01 a concrete continuation of the company’s design shift.

Jaguar says the deliberately controversial design aims to attract affluent younger buyers. Managing director Rawdon Glover described that intended audience at the New York launch; it is a statement of company strategy, rather than evidence of buyer demand.

Type 01 design changes how drivers see and use the car

The Type 01 measures 17.1 feet long, with a low roofline, stretched hood and curved fastback rear. Its most consequential visibility choice is the absence of a rear window: cameras send the rear view to a screen at the base of the windshield.

That means drivers will use a camera image to see behind them. The arrangement makes the retained concept styling a practical part of the driving experience, beyond the car’s appearance.

Inside, a large compartment separates the driver and passenger in a minimalist cabin. Engadget reports mostly screen-based controls, using a seven-inch central console and a 24-inch touchscreen, with a few physical controls on the steering wheel.

Power and range claims precede purchase details

Jaguar calls the Type 01 its most powerful road car ever. Engadget reports announced specifications of three electric motors, 1,016 horsepower and acceleration from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Those are reported specifications, not independently verified results in the supplied evidence.

Engadget also reports 450 miles of range under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure, or WLTP, a standardized vehicle test. Jaguar separately claims up to 320 miles on a charge at sustained highway speeds. The figures describe different conditions, so readers should not treat the larger number as a highway-range promise.

For potential buyers, the next concrete details are confirmed pricing and a sales date. As of October 7, 2026, neither was established in Engadget’s report. Its low- to mid-$100,000 price range was an estimate, not an announced Jaguar price.
